FAQs

Where does the money go?

The net proceeds from each year's Jeans for Genes campaign are distributed amongst a range of charities working to support children affected by genetic disorders.  Our funding helps them to provide day to day care, equipment, respite, family weekends and research.

Take a look at our section how your money helps to find out more about the projects we fund.

How much is spent on administration?

We try to keep these costs to a minimum but there are obviously costs we have to cover.  Things like staff salaries, the rent of our building, our utility bills and the production of your fundraising packs.

You’ll notice that we’re making more of our materials available to download from our website and that helps to keep our costs down.

The current economic situation meant we saw a considerable drop in our income in 2009, as did many charities.  We are a small team and we are always looking for ways to reduce our costs so that we can continue awarding funding to charities working with children and families with genetic disorders.

Why are there two phone numbers and which one should I use?

We’re a small team at Jeans for Genes which means that we’re not able to do everything at our head office in Paddington.

Freephone 0800 980 4800 – our colleagues in Colchester will register you for a fundraising pack, take your orders for Fifi zip-pulls, merchandise and additional fundraising materials for Jeans for Genes Day.  Talk to them if you need to amend your personal details or if you haven't received your thank you certificate.

020 7199 3300 – the team at our head office in Paddington can provide you with information about the work of Jeans for Genes, how to apply for a grant and can help with publicising your event.  Please call this number if you’d like to share your personal story with us, if you’d like to discuss a corporate sponsorship opportunity or if you’d like to make a comment about the charity.

How do I get more materials like posters, stickers and collection boxes?

We know that stickers are one of your favourite things.  But they are very expensive for us to produce.  If you would like more sheets you can download them from our website on to Avery labels.

You can also download posters and collection bucket labels from our website.  If you'd like us to send you more of any of these materials, please call us on freephone 0800 980 4800.

Can I pay in money for Fifi badges with money from Jeans for Genes Day?

It’s fantastic that you’ve decided to organise a Jeans for Genes Day AND sell our Fifi badges.  You’ve got a paying-in slip for each and we’d really like you to pay the monies in separately.  It helps us to see where the money’s come from.

If you've lost either of these paying-in slips, please call us on freephone 0800 980 4800 and we will send you new ones.  Without them, we won't know who the money has come from and we won't be able to say thank you.

How will I know if you’ve received my money?

We’ll send you a thank you certificate once we’ve received your donation.  It will show how much you’ve raised so everyone in your office, shop or school can see how well you’ve all done.

Please pay your money in using your paying-in slip otherwise we won't know who it's come from and we won't be able to send your certificate to you.

Why should I ask my colleagues to add Gift Aid to their donation?

Gift Aid is tax relief that’s donated to charities.  For every pound you give us, the government will give us an extra 28p.  If everyone who takes part in Jeans for Genes Day ticked the Gift Aid box, it would significantly increase the amount of money we raise each year.  Click here for more information about Gift Aid.

Can I split the proceeds of the Day and share them with another charity?

We spend a lot of time, effort and money producing fundraising packs for you to use.  But some people see ‘doing a Jeans for Genes Day’ as a dress down day which can benefit any charity of their choice.

Jeans for Genes is a registered trade mark and it can’t be used to fundraise for another charity.  We know many of you want to support other charities but please have an alternative day of fun for them.
