Genetic disorders

There are more than 4,000 recognised genetic conditions and there are many more that doctors have yet to give a name to.

Individually, they are very rare but together they affect 1 in 33 babies born in the UK.  Because of complications that arise from these conditions, they account for more than half of all childhood deaths in the UK.

Jeans for Genes' immediate aim is to support services that make children's day to day lives easier and more enjoyable.  In the long term, our investment in research will increase understanding about the causes of these conditions, help to establish standards of care and eventually find ways of curing disorders which can seriously affect families' lives.

This section gives you more information about genes, genetic disorders and how they are inherited.
