FAQs about Jeans for Genes

Where does the money go?

The net proceeds from each year's Jeans for Genes campaign are distributed amongst a range of charities working to support children affected by genetic disorders.  This year, 18 charities will benefit from the money you raise.

Take a look at our section how your money helps to find out more about the research and family support services we fund.

How much is spent on administration?

We try to keep these costs to a minimum but there are obviously costs we have to cover.  Things like staff salaries, the rent of our building, our utility bills and the production of your fundraising packs.

You’ll notice that we’re making more of our materials available to download from our website and that helps to keep our costs down.

In 2008, we've made some major changes which have meant we've spent more than in previous years.  You'll see that we've created a new website which we hope you'll find much clearer to use.  We've also got a new database so that we can record what you tell us more accurately and give you a better service.

These and other changes we've made have increased our costs but our aim is that the changes will save us money in the longer term.

Jeans for Genes’ costs can be higher than some other charities because we provide educational materials to schools.  Fundraising packs for primary and secondary schools contain assembly plans, activities in line with the National Curriculum and case studies so children can learn about living with a genetic disorder.

But we’re encouraging schools to download as much as they can from our website to keep these costs to a minimum.
