The Jeans for Genes School Awards
Calling all teachers! We'd like your entries for The Genies; Jeans for Genes' school awards which recognise the efforts of schools, students and teachers on Jeans for Genes Day.
The Genies are brand new in 2008 and they're awarded to those schools who did that little bit extra on Friday 3rd October.
What we're looking for
We will take into account a great deal more than just how much money you raised. We know that schools differ in size and circumstances. You can nominate a class, a year group, an after school club or the whole school.
Tell us what kinds of activities you organised on Jeans for Genes Day, how much fun you had and what sort of feedback you had from the students and the wider school community.
Education is a key part of our work here at Jeans for Genes and we'd like to know what the children learned on the Day. We'll be looking for examples of raising awareness and understanding about difference through using our educational materials or initiatives of your own.
Your prizes
There will be two gold awards, one for primary schools and one for secondary/mixed schools. The winning schools will receive:
- A 'gold' certificate and plaque that you can display to the school and its visitors
- Button badges for the students
- A professional photo shoot so we can feature you on our website and in our newsletter
- PR support to get your success recognised in your local media
- A prize that money can't buy!
There will also be five silver awards for schools of any kind. Winners will receive:
- A 'silver' certificate and plaque
- Recognition in our newsletter and on our website
- PR support to get your success recognised in your local media
Our judges
Entries will be shortlisted by the team here at Jeans for Genes. The remaining schools will then be considered by our judging panel.

Johnny says "In an ideal world all kids would have the same opportunities and the same degree of well being to make the most of their lives.
Sadly this is not the case, and as they grow up, children become very aware of this. This clearly shows in the support for Jeans for Genes Day that pupils have given through their school projects over the past dozen years.
I'm sure this year’s Jeans for Genes Day will be the biggest and best ever."
