Jeans for Genes: helping children with genetic disorders

Raised to date

£30,000,000

The Flora London Marathon 2008

Say hello and a huge 'well done!' to the Jeans for Genes London Marathon Team. Our thirteen wonderful runners hit the streets of the capital on Sunday 13th April. Between them they've raised more than £20,000 proving that the number 13 isn't always unlucky!

Doron Kristal

Jeans for Genes' very own Doron Kristal did us proud by coming home in 3 hours, 32 minutes and 40 seconds, and raising over £3,000 for the charity.

He would have been quicker if he hadn't stopped to have a chat with his family and the Jeans for Genes support team!

He's now been bitten by the bug so expect to see him try to beat his time next year.

Big Dave

Big Dave Fowler was an asset to the team in terms of making the logo on our running vests visible above everyone else (except for the stilt walker of course!)

He's also 'big' in fundraising terms and is well on his way to collecting £2,000 for Jeans for Genes.

Laura and Andrew Park

Laura Park not only ran the 26 miles for us, she also got her dad to support Jeans for Genes.  Laura, who's from Coventry, took one of our guaranteed places.

Her dad, who'd been awarded one in the public ballot, also decided to help us to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders.   What a great family effort!

Gabby Hegerty

Gabby lost two cousins to rare genetic disorder when she was in her teens so Jeans for Genes is a charity that's close to her heart.  She so far raised more than £1,000 and that figure's still rising!

Jean and Hannah Jean and Hannah with their medals
Jean and Hannah

Jean Smullens and Hannah Bills trained together and they were able to celebrate together at our after race party.

Hot sweet tea and a massage were much needed by both of them, but at least they were still smiling!

Nicole Barber-Lane

This year we had our very first celebrity runner.  We were very proud to have the support of actress, Nicole Barber-Lane.  Nicole is better known as Myra McQueen, mother of five trouble-making children on the Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks.

The last time she wore a pair of trainers was probably at school but that didn't stop her completing the 26 miles.  She's also raised a great deal of money for Jeans for Genes.

Nick Winsley Nick looking forward to that beer
Nick Winsley

The self-styled fundraising machine, Nick Winsley is well on his way to a big total for Jeans for Genes.  He completed the course in 4 hours, 43 minutes despite an exploding toe and being over-taken by two Wombles!

His proud family helped him to celebrate at the after-race party and no doubt bought him a well deserved and much longed for beer!

Hannah Smith

Hannah lost a close relative to a genetic disorder.  Jeans for Genes was an obvious choice for her when deciding who to run for.  She's beaten her fundraising target of £1,000 and did a fantastic job on the day.

James and George Morris James and George ready for the off!
James and George Morris

The brothers from London were the easiest of our team to spot in their yellow sweatbands.

The brothers had a bit of friendly rivalry, not only with each other but with their friend and fellow team mate, Nick Winsley.  But it would be rude to say who came home first!

Between them, the guys are aiming to raise at least £4,000.

Ben Black

This was Ben Black's second marathon.  Ben, who's from Gwent, finished just 38 seconds under the four hour mark and has so far raised £1,250.

Even his daughter, Mollie, contributed a year's worth of pocket money, so thank you Mollie and well done Dad!
