Fundraising ideas
Here are some fun fundraising ideas to get everyone at your organisation involved in GENErating lots of money on Jeans for Genes Day – and having fun, too!
Pizza anyone?
GENEration tea break
Get everyone baking – the old fashioned way! How about dusting down some great recipes which your granny might have used?
We’re thinking of jam tarts, treacle tarts, scones and sponge rolls. These are simple but delicious tea break treats which can be made, shared and sold on the Day. Go on, get everyone together and nosh for dosh!
Get the JEANeration look
Get everyone to dress-up in a denim look from different generations. Challenge each department to find the most authentic look!
Marketing could be given the '80s – think diamante, rhinestones, shoulder pads and jeans with stilettos! Sales could go for the '70s ‘punk’ look, complete with a blue Mohican.
And Administration could be challenged to '60s ‘hippy’ flares and braids!
The GENEral knowledge GENEration Quiz
We’ve prepared a selection of quiz questions which should exercise the brain cells of all the GENErations. Pit the wits of the old against the young, or blue eyes against brown eyes, in a GENEral knowledge quiz. Charge an entrance fee and download the questions and find out who is the GENEius!
Guess the GENEration
You’ve done the ‘Guess the Baby’ competition so how about ‘Guess the Granny’?! Why not create a board with pictures of your parents or grandparents and challenge everyone (for a small fee!) to guess who belongs to whom. You should see the resemblance because of their genes.
"We joined forces with other businesses in our block. We had a relay race around the car park, a BBQ, coffee and cakes and a raffle. We had a fantastic time and most of us continued well into the night - still in our jeans! We're looking forward to doing it again this year!" Emma Griffiths, James and Uzzell Accountants, Swansea
GENEration sale
Get your colleagues to rummage around their houses, sheds or attics and sell off forgotten inherited possessions or unwanted family heirlooms with an office bring and buy sale.
GENEtic retail therapy
A really simple way to generate extra funds is to encourage everyone to buy the official 2008 Jeans for Genes T-shirt. The T-shirt has been designed by a London College of Fashion student and endorsed by top designer, Wayne Hemmingway. As a Jeans for Genes co-ordinator, you’ll also receive an exclusive discount. What more reason do you need?
We’ve GENErated some more, simple ideas to make your Jeans for Genes Day really successful.
- Get the boss to make tea for the office all day and pay him or her 20p a cup
- Has your manager had that out of date ‘tache for too long? Do a sponsored shave-off; it’s all in a good cause!
- Raffle off a day’s annual leave
- If you already wear jeans, pay £2 to dress up for the day
- Dye your hair blue, wear outrageous hats or wigs
- Wear your wedding dresses to work. It’s not just the women who’ll want to take part!
- Sew up the bottoms of a pair of jeans and stand them in reception. Invite staff and visitors to fill them with change
And remember to ask your organisation to match the amount you raise!
