Fundraising Ideas

Here are some fun fundraising ideas to get everyone at your primary school involved in GENErating lots of money on Jeans for Genes Day – and having fun, too!

Girl with pizza If you don't fancy cakes, try pizza!
GENEration teatime

Get baking the old fashioned way!  How about dusting down some great recipes that your granny or great granny might have used, such as jam tarts, treacle tarts, scones and sponge rolls?

These are simple but delicious teatime treats which can be made, shared and sold on the Day.

Get the JEANeration look

Everyone could dress up in the jeans which their parents would have worn when they were their age.  Get sponsored to get the look or sell tickets to a JEANeration fashion show!

Take the teachers back to the '70s and the kids to the diamantes and jeans of the '80s.

JEAN GENIES and GENEration X

Now you’ve all got the gear, bring on the disco ball and the party lights and have a disco with music from every era.

The GENEral knowledge GENEration Quiz

How about pitting the wits of teachers against pupils or competing year groups in a quiz to exercise the brain cells of all generations?  You can download the GENEral knowledge questions and find out who is the GENEius!

GENErate your own time capsule

Get everyone to make an extra donation to include their photo and a little bit biography.  Then fill a container with contemporary treasure, decorate and invite the local press to the burial!  You could ask local businesses to donate items that symbolise this GENEration.

"Jeans for Genes Day gave us the opportunity to wear our much loved denims but at the same time raise money for a very worthwhile cause.  We had a lovely day - we played denim-themed games, had a denim pocket decoration competition and held a catwalk show!”  The Shocklach Ovatt C of E Primary School, Malpas, Cheshire
Guess the GENEration

You’ve done the ‘Guess the Baby’ competition so how about ‘Guess the Granny’?!  Why not create a board of your parents and grandparents and challenge everyone (for a small fee!) to guess who belongs to whom.  You should see the resemblance because of their genes.

GENEration makeover

With the help of make-up and a different hair-do, it’s amazing how closely we can resemble our parents.  How about sponsoring someone to bring in a photo of their mum or dad and give them a make-over for a photo which matches their parent’s pose? You’ll be amazed at the similarity!

What’s in your GENES?

If your mum’s a great singer, you might be too!  Show off the skills you’ve inherited from your family in a talent contest.  Charge parents a fee to come to see you perform.  Maybe you could do a duet!

GENErate extra funds from ‘Fifi and the Flowertots’!

Fifi and her friends are back this year with four brand new zip-pull designs.  You can order boxes of 50 to sell on a sale or return basis.

You can also buy them individually from our webshop or at retailers across the country.  Take a look at our Fifi page for more details.

We’ve GENErated some more, simple ideas to make your Jeans for Genes Day really successful.
  • Bring pennies into school and make the largest pair of jeans you can with them on the playground
  • If your school doesn’t wear a uniform, make it a bad taste day, wear wigs and hats or dress up instead of down
  • Get paid to do Denim Deeds – organise a car wash, do the washing up, cut the lawn or give Mum a hand with the ironing.
  • You can be sponsored to do almost anything - a bike ride, a walk around the park or how about the head teacher serving you lunch in the canteen?
  • Create a mural using old bits of denim, rivets and tabs.  Hold an exhibition, charge a small fee and let people view the masterpiece!
  • Pay to gunge the teachers using ‘denimised’ blue custard
